The stone gradations are warmed by the colourful mosaic work with a total area of 540 sq. m. It is divide into three single parts.

The theme of the first part is �The Winners� � one khan and his warriors who cheer the victory in a pose of acclamation. The second part is �Converting Bulgaria to Christianity�, and the third one presents the educational mission of Cyril and Methodius and their students � the bookmen, who created the grounds of the Golden Age.

The mosaics are built from two elements of equal worth: the figured composition co-exists with the character composition, as our ancestors did not build a state of conquerors but a state that survived due to developed civilization within it. The three stages in the historical development of the First Bulgarian State are emphasized with three kinds of writing characters. The first Bulgarian ruins, which are still object of research, are included in the first composition. In the second composition we can find the Glagolhic alphabet and it is the introduction of the letter, of the character of civilization that gives us the possibility to interpret the converting to Christianity as culturally political but not religious act. On the third part of the mosaic the character element is the Cyrillic alphabet.

Pay attention to the gradient of the mosaic works. The first one is at 45 degrees � pagan period, the second one at 60 degrees - converting to Christianity and the third one is at 90 degrees � Bulgarian culmination during the Golden Age.
