     Shumen plateau, as a natural well defended area, was populated from the remote past. Most of the caves were used as cave-dwellings in copper.
    Remains from several Thracian settlements, dated from IV � II century B.C., were found out. The slopes of the plateau still keep monasteries, churches and monk cells cut in the rocks. They were connected with the religious and cultural life led at the time of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. The most significant historical and archaeological place of interest in this area is the Shoumen Fortress /the so cold Old Town/, which survived for more than 3000 years.

"Marashka koria"
A grove of imposing oaks � more than 350 years old � is situated near Marash village, Shoumen district.The area of this grove is 26,88 hectares.

"Bukaka"
Bukaka is a reserve which consists of more than 100 years old beech forest from the spices Fagus Sylvatica ssp.Moesiaca. Mainly in it�s northern part grow some other ligneous spices like: hornbeam, maple,cerris oak etc. Bukaka has elevation 450 metres above sea level and it takes 63,04 hectares from the area of the Natural park Shoumen Plateau.

"Dervisha"
Dervisha reserve with area of 10,6 hectares is well kept. It is situated around the banks of Dervishka river and stands on 3 km.from the town Veliki Preslav.It is proclaimed for protected territory with purpose to preserve and protect the one and only natural field of ligneous spice horse-chestnut in Bulgaria.It is a remainder of former wide forest.Some of the trees in it reach a height of 35 metres.

"Mogilata"
Mogilata is terraneous upland which is situated on the land of Konyovets village,Shoumen district.It takes a territory of 35.8 hectares and is proclaimed for protected field in order to keep the great variety of steppe vegetation, which is different for every slope. Scientific researches found out that Mogilata is the best preserved field of steppe vegetation in Bilgaria.
