     Natural park Shoumen Plateau gives good living conditions for many bird spices. The optimum combination of geographic position, temperate climate, out of reach rocks and compound broad-leaved forests, make the park peculiar
ornithological oasis. More than 72 bird spices are find out to live in the region of Shoumen Plateau. Streams of birds in destination South- North could be seen in spring. These birds are mainly of spices buzzard - B.Buteo, B.Tufinus, Hieraetus penatus etc.
    �Annual ornithological researches register new for the park spices like black stork, missel / Turdus viscivorous/, wagtail / Moteilla / etc.

    It is prohibited in the park to:
- Persecute, kill or hunt any kind of birds.
- Collect and destroy eggs or nests.
    Redchest is amongst the most tender singers in the park.

    Most of all wide spread are songbirds /Passerifortes/ - 48 spices.
Fri��illa coelebs & Turdus ��r�l�

    Fringilla coeleps and blackbird /Turdus merala/ are met more often than other birds.You can�t see them but their melodious and strong songs could be heard from daybreak till twilight.
Ficedula semitorquata
    Muscicapide albicolis is among the rarest birds in Europe. You can observe this bird during spring and summer in Bukaka reserve.

    There are 7 representatives of Picifortes : big wood-pie, middle sized wood-pie, small wood-pie. Green , grey, black and Syrian woodpecker.

Drycopus martius

     The black woodpecker could be seen in a few places only in North Bulgaria � one of this places is the park Shoumen Plateau. The big wood-pie is the most frequently met woodpecker.You can observe it all over the year.
Dendrocopus major

     You can observe also some rapacious birds /Falconifortes/ such as: big hawk /Accipiter/, Buteo Buteo, Buteo Tufinus, Hieraetus pennatus Etc. Buteo Tufinus is a striking example for penetration of south elements in our ornithofauna.

    There are 6 bird spices in the park which are registered in The Red Book of Bulgaria � 5 of them are threatened with extinction: black stork, big hawk, Buteo Tufinus,small hawk and owl /Strix bubo/.The black woodpecker is in the category of rare birds.
