History
The passionate drive for knowledge gain of Bulgarian is the reason why even in the most difficult for the state years new schools had been established. Right after the end of the World War II huge necessity of qualified specialists have arisen. The hard military times root causes are in the core of many young people being unlettered. The contingency at that time was to establish schools using the methodology of combined work-study balance.
If Bulgarian history chronicles point out that approximately 170 years ago the first modern school was established we definitely may say that so called Evening schools fundaments were laid in the autumn of year 1946.
The decree issued by the then Ministry of Education with Mr.Kosturkov as head set the milestones of the establishment of the first 11 independent Evening schools. One of these schools was opened in Shumen and on a later stage denominated “Hristo Smirnenski” – one of the most beloved poets.
The first students there started the educational cycle on October 5th, 1946 just before legitimating that educational methodology with decree 6025 dated November 1st, 1946 issued by the Minister of National Enlightenment.
The principle of the school was Mr.Valkanov. 23 honoured teachers (mainly from First Male Secondary school) worked for the schools at that early years.
In the autumn of year 1961 the first shift classes were introduced. The number of people willing to attend the classes had been constantly increasing. The largest number of pupils was detected commencing 1960 – 1976. They were 870 students for the educational period 1965-66.
The school life for both students and teachers at that time is still considered to be memorable due to the variety of exposure opportunities. There were dedicated to the learning disciplines and famous poets’ evenings. The school teachers participated in different seminars and conferences under the Evening school motto with speeches and presentations on actual for the educational community in the field topics.
The memory of the plenty of teachers devoting their most fruitful years to the establishment and prosperity of the school is still alive. We provide our recognition to Mr.Chakarov who after 20 years working for the Evening school retired in year 1976 as its principle. This is the person who developed the school in a way that our days it is one of the biggest educational centres in the town.
The hearts of many generations of students will always stay with Mr.Marinchev, Mrs.Atanasova, Mrs.Consulela Chakarova, Mrs.Stoyanka Terzieva, Mr.Marin Mitev, Mrs.Bogdana Boycheva and many others who are departed.
Many of the teachers who had started their career with the school subsequently became University lecturers: Professor Ivan Totev, associate professors Tony Rafailova, Antonova, Vachkov, etc.
The quality of the teachers has been a main reason many of the students to continue their higher (University) education. We have our heritage in many fields: teachers, nursing, accountancy, banking, community affairs, business, governmental affairs, sport, etc.
Demanding contemporary society needs educated personalities. Different obstacles impede young people from attending schools classes. The Evening school provides to such people so called “second chance” to obtain the knowledge required in order to have competitive advantage on the labour market.
Our currently small but united team is honoured successor of schools tradition and values. With our high commitment, drive, passion and expertise we are determined to be recognized by the community.
